Tattoo addict mum, 45, says nobody will give her a job
The increasing acceptance of tattoos in social contexts contrasts sharply with the more conservative attitudes prevalent in the job market. One mother, who is passionate about tattoos and extensively inked, has shared her challenges in securing employment. She claims that her numerous tattoos are a significant barrier to finding work.
Tattoo Enthusiast Mother Faces Employment Challenges
Melissa Sloan, a 45-year-old mother, is adorned with tattoos from head to toe. Currently, she is facing difficulties in obtaining a job to support her family. Melissa attributes her inability to find work to her extensive body art. She began her tattoo journey at the age of 20 and disclosed in an exclusive interview with the Daily Star that her boyfriend is responsible for most of her tattoos, which are created in a “prison style” at home.
Her face features a variety of bold and intricate designs, including Playboy bunnies on her cheeks, marijuana leaves on her scalp, and hearts above her eyebrows. Additionally, she has spider web tattoos on her chest.
“It’s similar to the addiction one might have to cigarettes or alcohol,” Melissa explained. “For me, it’s become an addiction that I can’t shake off. I even keep the tattoo gun in my car, ready to use it anywhere.” She further noted, “My boyfriend does them in a prison style.”
Challenges in the Job Market
Melissa has candidly discussed her difficulties in finding work, revealing that she has struggled to hold a job for an extended period. “I can’t secure a job,” she lamented. “Employers are unwilling to hire me. I even applied for a position cleaning toilets in my area, but they rejected me due to my tattoos.”
This situation has led some to assume that she has never been employed. However, Melissa clarified to the reporter that she previously worked as a toilet cleaner, although that position was short-lived. “My first job was cleaning toilets a long time ago,” Melissa recounted. “People often overlook that.”
