My supervisor would instruct me to deceive his wife by claiming he was working late due to a project deadline. I grew increasingly disillusioned with my position, and one day I informed her, “Just so you are aware… your husband is rarely here after 6 pm.” To my astonishment, she began to laugh. She then remarked, “Oh, so you are not yet aware of our little game?”

It turned out that my supervisor would head straight home to her after work, but he had me lie as a means to test whether I would eventually reveal the truth. This peculiar method was his way of assessing my loyalty. Understanding this only heightened my frustration with the entire situation, leading me to conclude that it was time to resign. In retrospect, I find the entire episode somewhat amusing; however, at that moment, it was the final straw for me.
