Man Uses 11 Shipping Containers To Build His 2,500 Square Foot Dream House, And The Inside Looks Amazing
Designer Will Breaux realized his vision of a dream home by constructing a residence entirely from shipping containers. Situated on McGowen Street in Houston, this distinctive dwelling comprises 11 shipping containers, resulting in a three-story, 2,500 square foot structure complete with a rooftop deck.
Breaux had aspired to build his own home since the early 2000s but faced challenges in finding a designer who could bring his concept to life. Ultimately, he resolved to take control of the project himself. “I began looking at projects that were being built that I liked,” Breaux noted on his blog. After parting ways with a design team that did not fulfill his expectations, he began the process of designing the house on his own around 2011. The choice to utilize shipping containers was driven by their strength, fire resistance, durability, and ability to withstand hurricanes. Although he lacked formal construction experience, Breaux took the initiative to educate himself on container building, ultimately producing a 3D model of his envisioned home. After dedicating countless hours to the project, Breaux now enjoys the distinction of owning a remarkable and fully furnished container residence.
