More than a thousand attendees gathered to pay their respects to the 22-year veteran of the Greensboro Police Department, who tragically lost his life while off-duty in an attempt to prevent a beer theft at a Sheetz gas station.

Nix dedicated a significant portion of his career to public service, beginning as a 911 dispatcher before advancing to the police force. His family’s legacy of service spanned 150 years, with Dale being the first to serve as a police officer rather than a firefighter.

The tri-cornered flag was passed through ceremonial hands before being presented to Nix’s bereaved widow, Kelly.
