Ricki Lake faced criticism for sharing a photo when she was entirely unclothed

The most advantageous phases of Ricki Lake’s life are currently unfolding.

On Monday, the former talk show host posted a self-portrait on Instagram, showcasing her complexion and emotions.

In the image, the 54-year-old Lake is seen smiling while enjoying herself in an outdoor bathtub, surrounded by towering redwood trees.

She confidently stated, “These days are the best of my life.”

“At 54 and a half, I still consider myself relatively young! I am grateful for everything that has led me to this moment—a place defined by complete self-acceptance and self-love,” she remarked.

Although Lake began her journey toward self-acceptance in 2019, she did not publicly share it until 2022.

In December 2022, she released an unpublished video of herself shaving her head. In the caption, she revealed that she had been struggling with androgenetic alopecia, the cause of her hair loss, for three decades.

Lake expressed her desire to share this unedited footage now, despite having kept it private before. She wanted to reach out to those who have followed her journey and shown interest in it, stating, “I want you to know that I truly understand your pain, as I know some of you have faced similar challenges.”

In this video, viewers can witness her achieving a sense of tranquility, freedom, and, most importantly, self-care and self-acceptance.

Following her decision to shave her head, Lake’s hair has since grown back, and she has come to terms with her “naturally gray and occasionally unruly hair.”

May those encountering challenges find compassion and peace. Life is fleeting.

She remains steadfast, despite some individuals perceiving her appearance as provocative.

One person commented, “I don’t understand why someone would choose to present themselves in that manner,” while another added, “That’s fine, but why must we see it, just out of curiosity.” Personally, I find it somewhat peculiar to post a nearly nude photograph online.

She chose not to engage with their remarks, yet she did not seem perturbed by them either. We have the right to respect the independence of the artists whose work we appreciate and to share whatever they wish.

In our opinion, her primary statement warrants particular attention. Worrying about issues beyond our influence is an unproductive endeavor. We must learn to accept and nurture ourselves, imperfections included!
