It is unfortunate that familial relationships do not inherently ensure the presence of kindness, humor, or other appealing traits in an individual, which would make them enjoyable company. Our society is home to a variety of unusual, irritating, and even rude individuals, some of whom may be your relatives.

Nearly everyone can point to at least one family member whom others tend to shun. The r/AskReddit community has provided insights into who that person is within their families and the behaviors that have led to their social isolation. Below are their narratives.

In my case, I am the only deaf person in my family and the sole individual with this condition in my town, which has resulted in limited exposure to American Sign Language (ASL), aside from my mother, aunt, and older brother. Despite this, our family interactions were scarce. Consequently, I grew up with minimal sign language exposure and did not experience ASL during important events such as my birthday, Christmas, or Thanksgiving. As a result, I now view holidays as insignificant and a waste of time. My mother has only FaceTimed me once in the last 13 years, and that was merely to find my cousin while I was with him in a store, whereas she frequently FaceTimes my cousin and older brother. It is crucial to learn ASL and connect with a deaf family member; exclusion is not a viable solution.
