Hidey suffered from years of neglect due to her owner’s inability to attend to her grooming requirements. Rescuers initially viewed her as an ethereal being because of her severely tangled fur. Paul Russell, who encountered her, remarked, “My goodness, this is a cat!” At the age of 14, Hidey was rescued by a caring couple and taken to the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center. The neglect she faced stemmed from her owner’s battle with Alzheimer’s, which rendered Hidey incapable of grooming herself.
