Heather Unbehaun, who faces charges for the abduction of her daughter from an Illinois suburb six years ago, has turned herself in to law enforcement, concluding a highly publicized case. She is currently detained at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in Illinois, facing abduction charges with no option for bail.

Before her surrender, Kayla Unbehaun was found safe in North Carolina and has since been reunited with her custodial father. Heather Unbehaun was arrested in North Carolina under a fugitive warrant issued from Illinois for kidnapping and child abduction. Initially, she was held on a $250,000 bond but was released after posting bail on Tuesday, as reported by Asheville Police Department spokesperson Samantha Booth.

Kayla was reported missing on July 4, 2017, after a parade in South Elgin, Illinois. Heather had told Kayla’s father, Ryan Iserka, that they were going camping but did not return. A felony warrant for Heather’s arrest was subsequently issued.

The case took a pivotal turn when a resident in Asheville recognized Kayla from the Netflix series “Unsolved Mysteries” and alerted the authorities. Ryan Iserka expressed his appreciation to law enforcement and supporters for their role in reuniting him with Kayla. Heather Unbehaun is set to appear in court again on Wednesday morning at the Kane County Judicial Center.
