Her life was on the line, and she did the one thing that could save her: She ordered pizza.
A woman in Florida encountered a dangerous predicament but received help from an unlikely ally: Pizza Hut.
According to WFLA, Cheryl Treadway successfully escaped a hostage situation with the assistance of her mobile device and a nearby Pizza Hut. On May 4, 2015, Treadway, who lived in Highlands County, Florida, used the Pizza Hut app on her phone to order a small hand-tossed pepperoni pizza. Along with her order, she included a message for the store’s management, revealing that she was being held hostage and urgently needed help. Treadway and her children were threatened by her boyfriend, Ethan Nickerson, who was armed with a knife. Upon receiving her order, the local Pizza Hut quickly alerted law enforcement, resulting in the police arriving at her home and subsequently arresting her boyfriend.
Although Treadway’s situation ended favorably, many others are not as lucky. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence indicates that one in three women and one in four men have faced physical violence from a current or former intimate partner.
