Meat Loaf’s rendition of the National Anthem during the 1994 All-Star Game is often regarded as the finest interpretation in history.

However, it is difficult to contest the opinion of those who assert that the legendary Meat Loaf delivered the ultimate version of the national anthem at the 1994 All-Star Game held in Pittsburgh.
Clad in a vibrant brocade vest, the rock icon, who experienced a significant revival in the 1990s, was at the peak of his popularity that year. With an album that gained traction through MTV, he was once again in the limelight, eager to demonstrate his talents. Born Martin Lee Aday, he was in his mid-40s when he passionately performed the anthem, clearly enjoying every second on stage.
In reflecting on his feelings prior to performing the anthem, Meat Loaf remarked, “It’s one of the warmup songs I do before I go on stage. Then I go out and sing stuff that doesn’t resemble it.” He further stated, “It’s a very dramatic song, and I’m going to sing it slow and dramatic.” Dressed in a colorful brocade vest, a sparkling shirt, and black trousers, he captivated the audience with his commanding voice.
Nevertheless, his performance lasted only 84 seconds, falling short of Marvin Gaye’s record of 2 minutes and 21 seconds set during an NBA All-Star game.
When he took to the field, many compared him to John Kruk of the Philadelphia Phillies. Nevertheless, Meat Loaf characterized himself as “an American League kind of guy,” further stating that he was “more conservative than any individual you’ve ever met.”
