‘It Makes Me Ill to See Her Wear This’: Queen Camilla Dons Queen Elizabeth’s Tiara, Sparking Heated Talks

King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted a lavish banquet in honor of Qatar’s Royal Couple, yet it was not the opulence of the evening that captured attention, but rather the crown adorning the Queen’s head.
During the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace, Queen Camilla, aged 77, chose to wear the iconic crown of the late Queen Elizabeth II, a decision rich in royal significance. This act was intended to convey a sense of continuity within the monarchy, although it elicited a variety of responses on social media.
The banquet, which took place on December 3, was held to honor the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani. Approximately 150 guests were present, celebrating the robust diplomatic, cultural, and trade relations between the United Kingdom and Qatar.
For this distinguished occasion, Queen Camilla wore a red velvet evening gown designed by Fiona Clare, complemented by the diamond Kokoshnik tiara, a piece closely associated with the late monarch.
Her ensemble was further enhanced by a diamond necklace from the royal collection and the Family Orders of both the late Queen and King Charles III.
While her attire reflected royal heritage, it also provoked strong reactions online. One critic expressed their discontent, stating, “It makes me ill to see her wear this crown [sic].” Another individual dismissed Camilla’s tiara choice with a sarcastic remark.
A critical observer remarked, “I can only imagine Queen Elizabeth is turning in her grave at the sight of her jewels being worn; I doubt she would have approved of Camilla.” Another individual bluntly expressed, “This is completely unacceptable.”

Additionally, an admirer highlighted her overall look, noting how stunning Camilla appeared in her gown and how striking the tiara was.

While the focus was largely on her tiara, Camilla also shared insights regarding her health during the banquet. She revealed that her chest infection was a type of pneumonia, which continues to produce “lingering” effects.
The illness, which was initially misdiagnosed, led her to miss several public engagements and resulted in post-viral fatigue. Nevertheless, she showcased her dedication to royal responsibilities by participating in key aspects of the event.

To facilitate her recovery, Camilla adhered to her physician’s recommendations by forgoing the outdoor ceremonies and participating in a formal luncheon at Buckingham Palace prior to the evening banquet.
Sources from the Palace highlighted that although she has recuperated from pneumonia, the illness has resulted in her having “significantly diminished reserves of energy,” necessitating further modifications to her schedule.
The Palace disclosed that Camilla was diagnosed with a chest infection on November 5, 2024.
As reported by the BBC, this diagnosis prompted her to cancel her engagements that Thursday, including her anticipated appearance at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, where the Duchess of Gloucester stepped in on her behalf.
Additionally, it was noted that Camilla was unable to attend an evening reception at the Palace for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, which was hosted solely by Charles.
On the advice of her doctors, Camilla took time to rest at home; however, she expressed her intention to participate in significant events that weekend, such as the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and the Cenotaph service in Whitehall.
Following the announcement of her diagnosis, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer conveyed his best wishes for her “speedy recovery.”
Numerous royal supporters also shared their well-wishes, with one expressing hopes for Camilla’s comfort, rest, and recovery, while another offered prayers for her swift healing.
